Community Montessori
Philosophy

Community Montessori is more than just a name — it is a two-word encapsulation of our ethos. We are all members of a community, and are here to help one another succeed, learn, and grow. An offer of enrollment for your student is an invitation to join our community of students, parents, and educators who are all dedicated to
lifelong learning and the cultivation of an effective learning environment that supports and empowers self-directed, authentic learning.
Within a Montessori environment, children are divided into mixed-age groups rather than year groupings. Older students are able to help guide and instruct their younger peers. This experience of competence solidifies a student’s self-esteem, along with solidifying their knowledge.
We want every student to develop to his or her full potential, especially intellectually. Independence, self-confidence, intrinsic motivation, risk taking, and self-discipline are valued. Making choices takes practice, and we provide students with ample opportunities to practice making responsible decisions and accepting the outcomes of their own choices. Students are free to move around the room, choosing from a wide variety of activities and “work” as best appeals to them.
A key component of Montessori education is to provide students with long, uninterrupted work periods. Students are able to work for long periods without interruption, allowing for intense engagement with their self-chosen work.
When students leave our school, they are competent and confident individuals. We want to foster independence and strong love of learning that will persist within the personality of the individual.
